The US Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on four Iranian citizens associated with the country’s intelligence. This is reported by TASS.
Ali Reza Shahvarogi Farahani, Mahmoud Hazein, Omid Nuri and Kiya Sadeghi, who, according to Washington, are associated with the Ministry of Information (Intelligence), fell under restrictions Iran, which is subject to US sanctions.
According to the authorities, all four are involved in a plot aimed at kidnapping and exporting an American journalist of Iranian origin from the United States.
As the head of the US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control, Andrea Gaki, noted, this conspiracy is another example of the Iranian government’s attempts to “silence critics, regardless of where they are located.”
Getting on the sanctions list means for Iranians to freeze their assets in the United States and prohibit American citizens or companies from doing business with them.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced Iran’s interest in organizing attempts on American citizens, including current and former officials. The politician said that four Iranians-Mahmoud Hazein, Kiya Sadeghi, Omid Nuri and their alleged leader Alirez Farahani-planned attempts on fellow dissidents in the UK, Canada and the United Arab Emirates.
In August, the US authorities announced the introduction of additional sanctions against a number of citizens of Iran and Cuba. The US Treasury Department has imposed sanctions against Oman businessman Mahmoud Rashid Amour al-Habsi and his companies. He is considered the owner of a network that illegally supplies oil to Iran in the interests of the elite military-political formation of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
