Next to the 30th pier in Vladivostok on Saturday, a memorial sign was opened in honor of the sailors who died in the battle in the Tsushima Strait on May 27-28, 1905. Similar monuments have been erected in Kronstadt and St. Petersburg, as well as in Shimane Prefecture on the island of Honshu.
– This memorial sign will remind you of significant events in our history. We must continue to make sure that our children know and remember the history and exploits of our heroes, – said the mayor of the city Konstantin Shestakov.
The initiative to install a memorial in the Far Eastern capital belongs to entrepreneur Alexander Korytko. He himself notes that the government of Primorye, the city administration, the Pacific Fleet and the all-Russian public organization “Support of Russia”also made a significant contribution.
– We collected this monument bit by bit and the place of its installation was not chosen by chance. A low bow to the lost sailors, ” says Korytko.
The opening ceremony took place within the framework of the Eastern Economic Forum, which is being held in Vladivostok from September 2 to 4.
