Russian Senator Oleg Morozov has commented on the probability of assistance to Minsk in the framework of the collective security Treaty (CSTO). His words on Sunday, August 16, leads RIA Novosti.

Commenting on the conversation of presidents of Belarus and Russia Alexander Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin in which the latter expressed readiness to assist in the resolution of problems, member of the Federation Council explained that “nothing special” in the statement of the leaders of no, and stressed that we are talking about “exceptional situations”.

On 16 August it became known that President of Russia Vladimir Putin during the telephone conversation with Lukashenko said that Moscow is ready to provide Minsk with support to resolve problems that arose in the Republic after the presidential elections. In particular, it was a question of assistance on the basis of the Treaty on the Union state and the CSTO.

Earlier it was reported that the European Parliament proposed to impose sanctions against Russia over events in Belarus. The proposal was made by the Deputy of the European Parliament from Poland Jacek Saryusz-Wolski. According to him, if to neutralize the role of “Russian intervention or even annexation”, the Belarusians themselves to cope with the construction of democracy.
