August 9, according to “the Rambler”, in Belarus presidential elections were held. According to official results, won the acting head of state Alexander Lukashenko (80,1% of the vote), and Tikhanovski took second place (10,12%).
After the end of voting in cities of Belarus started the mass protests, and Tikhanovski was detained for several hours, then went to Lithuania. On 11 August she issued a statement in which he urged his compatriots not to expose their lives to danger, confronting the police in the squares.
Today the candidates have distributed another appeal. In it she urged the authorities to stop the violence and to begin a dialogue, and Belarusians to defend their choice and freedom of legitimate non-violent means.
