TV presenter Ksenia Sobchak called the error of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko. In a post on Instagram she noted that the chosen method of suppressing protests in the country makes it obvious that it is not supported by the citizens.
“There are orders, which can give up clinging to the power of the people, but to carry out their crime,” wrote Sobchak. In her opinion, even if the “sadistic methods and all these beatings,” will be able to stop the protests, everyone, including Lukashenko himself, would know that his power rests “only on fear and not on the choice of the people.”
“It always ends the regime who can not time to go and understand that the turnover of power is the only peaceful way of development”, — said Sobchak. Leading believes that to cheat time and history, no one will.
Across Belarus for several days, held mass protests. Their participants demanded the resignation of President Lukashenko and holding new fair elections of the head of state. According to official data of the CEC, during the vote on 9 August, Lukashenko gained more than 80 percent of the vote.
The protesters dispersed with rubber bullets, stun grenades, tear gas, water cannons and batons. Detained several thousand people, instituted dozens of criminal cases. Officially confirmed the death of one demonstrator. According to the authorities, in his hands exploded a homemade device that he wanted to throw at security forces. Later it became known about the death of 25-year-old resident of Gomel after his arrest.
