Based in new York, a non-governmental organization "Committee to protect journalists," (CPJ) has called on the Belarusian authorities not to interfere with press to cover events in the country and investigate attacks on them.
According to the Committee, when reporting on the riots attacked the police on Sunday attacked at least four journalists, at least five were arrested. Also on Monday was detained at least three journalists in Hrodna, said the Committee.
"the Belarusian authorities should stop attacking the press, which covers protests, and must ensure that police officers who attack journalists, were prosecuted," said Gulnoza said, program coordinator of CPJ’s Europe and Central Asia.
According to her, journalists have the right to cover important events in the history of the country, freely and in safety.
The Committee clarifies that was appealed in this regard to the Ministry of internal Affairs of Belarus, but there is not the call was answered.
The ninth of August in Belarus presidential elections were held. According to specified data of the CEC, incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko is gaining 80,08% of the vote. He has led the country for over 26 years.
