Belarusian oppositionist Valery Tsepkalo who left the country soon after the refusal to register him in the presidential election, sent the leaders of 32 countries an open letter urging them to support the "free and fair" elections of the President in Belarus. About it reports RBC.
In the letter Tsepkalo noted that the last 26 years, Belarus is ruled by one and the same person, who established a regime of autocracy and ignores the basic values of a democratic society.
"there is no freedom of speech, no free elections, and in General there is no guarantee of respect for fundamental human rights", – wrote the politician.
On behalf of the Belarusian people Tsepkalo asked for support from world leaders in the international observation of the voting process and the counting of votes in the election of the President.
The purpose of the Belarusian opposition Tsepkalo called the victory of Svetlana Tikhanovski – the single candidate from opposition forces, the fight against fraud in the voting, and the release of all political prisoners. In case of victory Tikhanovski, according to the politician, it is planned in period from three to six months the holding of new presidential elections, in which candidates will be admitted who is now in custody.
The presidential election in Belarus to be held on 9 August. The CEC refused to register as candidates for the presidency of the main opponents of Alexander Lukashenko – Valery Tsepkalo and Victor Babariko. After the failure in several major cities of the country began mass protests.
Before that, Babariko was arrested on suspicion of money laundering and tax evasion. Tsepkalo at the end of July left Belarus. According to his wife, reliable sources Tsepkalo received information about the impending arrest and possible termination of parental rights.
