In Belarus detained citizens of Russia was in transit to a third country and had an employment contract with a commercial company registered in Belarus. This was stated by Russian Ambassador in Belarus Dmitry Mezentsev.

According to him, citizens of Russia had intended to fly from Minsk on 25 July and did not plan to be in Republic for a long time, and much later he planned to return to Moscow from another state by plane, bypassing the territory of Belarus.
Mezentsev said that the Russians do not have any relation to the socio-political situation in Belarus before the presidential election. According to him, the interpretation of the fact of detention of Russians as attempts to interfere in the internal Affairs of Belarus has no grounds and only “helps the enemies of the Union state to sow discord in the brotherly relations” between the two countries.
The Ambassador also urged the Belarusian side to present evidence on charges of preparing a terrorist act against the detained Russians.
The foreign Ministry of Belarus sent a note with the requirement to provide access of consular officials to the detained Russians, said Mezentsev.
