Poland abandoned the idea to place the American fighters F-35 Lightning II on the basis of 80 kilometres from the Kaliningrad region, reports the edition Defence24. Analysts believe that the authorities got scared.
We are talking about a military base in Malbork, which is closest to the Russian border. This Polish experts also ruled out the deployment of U.S. fighters in the city of mińsk Mazowiecki, which lies close to Belarus.
Poles, according to the journalists, fear that the Russian and Belarusian military will be able to explore the features of the F-35, which gives him advantages over enemy aircraft: a unique infrared and radar characteristics.
According to representatives of the media, studied the tender announced by the Polish Ministry of defense, positioning American fighter is scheduled at the base near the Polish-German border in the town of Swidwin, previously occupied by a squadron of su-22.
It is noted that the base retains the necessary infrastructure, but requires modernization. It is assumed that Swidwin can be placed not only aircraft the F-35 Lightning II, but also F-16 Fighting Falcon, which is currently based on in Poznan.
