Corning has announced a shock-resistant protective glass for smartphones Gorilla Glass Victus. Presented component must protect devices from drops, reports the Verge.
According to Corning, the new glass compared to the previous Gorilla Glass 6 — two times more resistant to scratching, and four times in comparison with similar competing firms. The manufacturer guarantees that Victus can withstand a drop from a height of two meters. Corning also tested protection against repeated drops: Victus survived 20 drops from a height of one meter, Gorilla Glass 6 — 15.
the company noted that the new component remains vulnerable to repeated subtle physical effects. In particular, if the smartphone will be in your pocket or bag with keys or coins over time on the glass surface will scratch. “Damage of this nature is applicable to any glass material,” said lead researcher Corning of Jamin amine (Jaymin Amin).
According to the Corning, supply of protective glass of a new type will begin in the coming months. First and foremost, Gorilla Glass Victus will be equipped with new Samsung smartphone.
