One of the problems of the long-lasting presence on the moon or on the surface of another planet such as Mars, is finding the force necessary for the normalization of human habitation.
It is reported that NASA is considering building nuclear power plants that will operate on the moon and Mars. On Friday, NASA released a request for ideas from private entrepreneurs, as nuclear energy can be used beyond Earth in the future.
All submitted ideas will be considered by the National laboratory of Idaho, which is a nuclear research facility in the Eastern part of Idaho, the Department of energy and NASA will evaluate all submitted ideas for the reactor. NASA claim that small nuclear reactors could provide power required for missions in space exploration.
Will be held in August industrial technical meeting to discuss the expectations of the program. The meeting will be conducted by the Department of energy, NASA and Battelle Energy Alliance. The latter is the contractor who operates the National laboratory, Idaho.
The two-stage plan, first developed reactor design. The second is to build a test reactor to send to the moon. The program also requires the development of a system of flights and lander that can transport the reactor on the moon.
In the space Agency want the reactor, the flight system and the lander was ready to launch by the end of 2026. The reactor needs to generate smooth output power of at least 10 kilowatts.
