Coalition “National unity”, headed by the party of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad “Baas” has won the parliamentary elections in the country on July 19. About this reports Deutsche Welle.
It is noted that the ruling coalition managed to keep the majority in the National Council, despite the loss of 23 seats compared with results in 2016. The vote was organized for 70 percent of the country — on the part of that under the control of Assad.
In elections were banned some opposition parties that do not recognize the role of “Baas”. They are traditionally not recognized by the Western countries and Turkey.
Originally elections were to be held on April 13, but because of the pandemic coronavirus were removed two times. In the end it was decided to hold the elections on 19 July, despite the continued rate of new infections.
