Scientists at the Institute of astronomy of the University of Hawaii have discovered a giant cosmological structure called the Wall of the South Pole. This was reported in an article published in the journal the Astrophysical journal.
The wall of the South Pole is located behind the supercluster of galaxies Laniakea, the diameter of which reaches 520 million light years, and upholster it in a semicircle. The densest part of the Wall stretching through the sky at 200 degrees is in the direction of the South Pole at a distance of about half a billion light years from Earth. Along the arc of the galaxy are slowly moving to the South Pole, and from there to Shapley supercluster, which is the most massive supercluster of galaxies in the observable Universe.
The wall of the South pole as big as the Great wall Sloan, one of the largest cosmological structures known in the Universe, but is closer. Its detection is hampered by the fact that it is located in the region of the sky where observations are difficult because of extensive dust clouds. However, researchers have found that structures on the gravitational effect influencing the speed of the galaxies.
