the old-Timers remember the Island before the war was the most prosperous among the neighboring five villages. People grow wheat, raised livestock. Only lived here 200 people, there were 40 houses in a line and one lane with access to the river. A single house here has not survived, but that they were reminiscent of lilac that grew at that time almost every window.
After the war did not return home 34. The economy rested on the shoulders of women and children. The village itself existed until 1972. The idea to erect a monument on the site of the Islands advanced native local journalist Ivan Osipov. First he was supported by the son of the fallen on the battlefields of Ivan Ryasova Cyril. The money for the erection of the memorial was given by the relatives of soldiers killed in action. Many dispersed throughout the country, but their homes are not forgotten. The monument was unveiled in St. Peter’s day, 12 July 1985. “St. Peter’s day was a feast day for the Islands,” says Ivan Osipov.
Over the years, the monument became dilapidated. On the eve of the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the great Patriotic war Ivan Osipov has offered to repair it. He was supported not only by the former villagers, their children and grandchildren, but also local entrepreneurs. The district authorities have also allocated part of the funds for restoration.
