The President of Russia Vladimir Putin congratulated the residents of Kalmykia on the 100th anniversary of the Republic. The telegram published Sunday on the website of the Kremlin.
"since that time, the country had built many industrial, agricultural, transport infrastructure, open new schools and universities, institutions of science and health. It is important that residents of Kalmykia honor the covenants of their fathers and grandfathers and their distinctive customs and traditions, fruitful work for the benefit of his native land, making a significant contribution to national goals", – reads the telegram.
Putin also wished the residents of the Republic further success.
July 5, 2020 marks 100 years since the formation of the RSFSR Autonomous region of Kalmyk working people. In 2019 in order to perpetuate the education of autonomy, the day is declared in region by Day of Republic.
November 4, 1920 was established the Kalmyk Autonomous oblast of the RSFSR (was part of the lower Volga and Stalingrad edges). 20 Oct 1935 transformed into the Kalmyk Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (ASSR). 27 Dec 1943 decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Kalmyk ASSR was abolished and its territory divided between Astrakhan, Rostov, Stalingrad oblasts and Stavropol Krai. January 9, 1957 was restored the Kalmyk Autonomous oblast as part of Stavropol Krai, from 26 July 1958, the Kalmyk Autonomous Soviet socialist Republic (derived from the Stavropol region). 18 October 1990, with the adoption of the Declaration of sovereignty was transformed into the Kalmyk Soviet Socialist Republic. 29 January 1991 – Kalmyk Soviet socialist Republic – Khalmg Tangch, on February 20, 1992 – the Republic of Kalmykia – Khalmg Tangch. April 5, 1994 renamed into the Republic of Kalmykia.
