Archaeologists have discovered a new bronze age settlement near the village of Stepnoye in Plastovskoy district of Chelyabinsk region. As reported in the Chelyabinsk state University, to study the object was joined by scientists from the University of Pittsburgh, USA.
the Discovery was made head of the Department of archeology, Ethnography, modern and historical ecology CSU Natalia Butenina, – said the Director of educational-scientific centre for the study of nature and human CSU, Elena Kupriyanova. Objects were found on the materials of aerial photography of the twentieth century, that hereditary archaeologist decrypted by the method of his grandmother AI Mikhailovna. Today Natalia Butenina is the only holder of the secrets of “family skills”, allow time to open on the territory of the Chelyabinsk region, the majority of such settlements like Arkaim.
As explained in the University, remote research methods are usually preceded by field reconnaissance. Using old aerial photos and modern satellite images, archaeologists can study the areas that interest them and promising, is poorly studied or planned for development. At this stage it is possible to discover new ancient sites. Comparing images from different years, you can also monitor the condition of known sites.
Now the archeologists of the Chelyabinsk state University together with colleagues from the University of Pittsburgh, the United States conducted a study, the open settlement program of large-scale radiocarbon Dating.
Already received about 25 dates to determine the time of creation of separate objects – the burials, dwellings, burial mounds to ancient monuments and to assess how changing culture and economy of the ancient inhabitants of the steppe during the existence of the “land of cities” and of the arch.
during the summer, the researchers plan to conduct a study of the settlement with the micromagnetic shooting. They will compare data with that of old photographs and modern 3D plan made by Natalia Badaninoy using electronic total station.
This will allow to determine why a particular settlement had a certain shape (circle, square, rectangle), whether this form is dictated by a necessity, location, and how it has changed over time.
