The former assistant to the President for national security John Bolton believes the meeting of leaders of the United States and the DPRK strategic mistake, and, taking post in the us administration, had been concerned about what a President Donald trump at negotiations with the leader of the democratic people’s Republic of Kim Jong-UN will go to unjustified concessions. About this Bolton said Sunday in an interview with broadcaster ABC.
Referring to the first meeting of Donald trump and Kim Jong-UN in Singapore in 2018, Bolton noted that trump was primarily interested in the question of how many journalists will be present at his final press conference.
"He focused on the fact that he had the opportunity for photographing the joint, when the US President first meets with the leader of North Korea, ‘ he continued. – This attracted great attention, but I think it was a strategic mistake. The US got nothing from this, but Donald trump got a great deal".
This meeting, said Bolton, "nothing is given for a specific discussion on the elimination of their nuclear weapons program".
"I was very concerned that the President will make concessions where it is absolutely not necessary to do, – said Bolton. – As I described in my book, and it has already attracted the attention of the press, he said Kim Jong Ynu that we abandon military exercises on the Korean Peninsula, which caused severe heartburn in the Ministry of defence. They [Pentagon officials] felt that they were not included in the number of decision-makers". Bolton was dismissed from the post of assistant on national security in September last year. His memoir "the Room where it happened: a memoir of the White house" (The Room Where It Happened: A White House Memoir), containing a very negative assessment was supposed to come out in March, but then their publication was postponed until may. At the end of April it became known that the book is due out June 23. Publisher Simon and Schuster last Friday, published the Foreword to the book, according to which Bolton, in particular, compares the approach of the White house to foreign policy with real estate transactions, which leads to a weakening of US positions.
Trump announced the appointment of Bolton to be his assistant for homeland security in March 2018, and in 18 months had dismissed him.
