After the war, the Museum became one of the main “ceremonial” areas of the city: here was awarded the Komsomol tickets, gave the military oath. A restructuring of people threw in the “revolutionary” mansion to Express their attitude to the party in General and Yakov Mikhailovich in particular. And the Museum took up the challenge. In 1988, in its walls there was a series of “round tables” with discussion of pressing issues: about the revolution, Sverdlov, the name of the town. Staff was on duty all day on three phones, answering questions of citizens.
In 1991, when again the Sverdlovsk became Ekaterinburg, Sverdlov Museum became a Museum of social and political movements in the Urals. But everyone knew: the city needs a Museum telling about its history in General. And in 1995, jubilee was renamed the Museum of history of Yekaterinburg.
Today IT is a complex of six sites: the mansion, where it all began, the photographic Museum “metenkov House”, a memorial to the victims of political repression cinema “Colosseum”, the water tower at Plotinka and the Center for urban practices “House Maleckova”. For the anniversary, the Museum has prepared a new exposition “From the plant to the city” – the period from 1781 to 1917. MIA is finally ready to talk about the history of Ekaterinburg, from the beginnings to the present day.
