In particular, there have been excavated the remains of a fortress. She probably ceased to exist in the XVII century, during the Swedish invasion. Scientists have yet to determine, as this area archaeologists, has not been studied.
during the excavations, archaeologists discovered more than 200 objects, including arrowheads era Yatvingians. The finds suggests that the area was already densely inhabited in the X century. This century is dated some arrowheads, and found here a spur. But the chronology is yet to be set.
during the excavations were also found ceramics, fragments of pottery from different periods, the elements of ax, Cannonball, wrought nails and decorative items, most likely adorned some the chest.
Scientists believe that further research in this area will shed light on its history. For example, there is still no consensus on the question of what the order of 700-1000 years ago controlled this territory.
Some researchers believe that it was the Slavic tribes, others that lived here Yatvingians. The last is a Baltic tribal groups, ethnically close to the Prussians. Since the XII century, she participated in the ethnogenesis of the Lithuanian, Belarusian and Polish peoples.
the territory of the Yatvingians was called Sudovia or Latveria. It is believed that it was located to the North of the plots on which they were excavated. Mention of the Yatvingians is available in annals of the XIII century “the Word of the destruction of the Russian land after the death of Grand Prince Yaroslav”. It follows from this that Yatvingians lived “between Czechs and Lithuanians”.
“we discovered In the fortress there are traces of people who lived here from X to XVII century, says Piasecka. – She was badly damaged during the Swedish invasion, that is, in the XVII century. Despite the fact that the existence of this fortress has long been known, the excavations are not conducted in it. Thanks to new research we now know that it definitely existed in the X century and could be connected with the Yatvingians”.
However, the hypothesis of the Slavs anybody yet does not reset. Archaeologists plan to spend in this area is more large-scale excavations.
