MOSCOW, 2 Jun — RIA Novosti. Scientists from the National Institute of anthropology and history Mexico (INAH) has published a research paper which explained the reason for the erection of the pyramids by the ancient inhabitants of Mesoamerica, which was located on the territory of modern Central America. Scientists studying the famous pre-Hispanic objects found in Mexico, suggested that the pyramids were sacred mountains copies. In their opinion, so ancient people imitated nature, which was met with a pyramid shape — for example, the silhouettes of the volcanoes.
According to the authors of the study, the pre-Hispanic societies of Mesoamerica not only wanted to visually recreate a similar natural features, but also lay them in a sacred meaning. They noted that for this reason the pyramids were centers of ancient cities.
According to archaeologists, the pyramid shape is also facilitated by the construction of a high monumental object, which was especially important for the ancient people.
