Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated border guards with their professional holiday.
"Dear comrades, I congratulate the staff and veterans of the Border service of FSB of Russia on the day of border guard. The kindest words you and your family, – the President told the TV channel "Russia-24". Today we honor the defenders of the Russian frontier, courageous and brave people who protect the security of the homeland and our citizens".
Putin said that the border service has a rich history.
"For centuries, the guardians of the frontiers of the Fatherland are always the first to confront the enemy, fought to the end," he added, stressing that people’s memory will forever be the border guards who died on duty, defending the country.
The Russian President also thanked the guards "for their conscientious service, devotion to duty and oath" and expressed confidence that they will continue to honorably serve the country. "In recent years, our guards have not once proved their high professionalism, were equal to the generation of winners adequately performed even the most complex tasks repeatedly demonstrated examples of resilience and fortitude in a combat situation
The current generation with honor continues the legendary tradition, firmly defends national interests and security of Russia", – Putin said.
May 28 every year in Russia is celebrated border guards Day – a professional holiday of the personnel and veterans of the Border service of Federal security service of Russia. The holiday was established by the decree of Russian President Boris Yeltsin on 23 may 1994.
