The head of the Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, said Russia’s unwillingness to participate in the race for moon exploration. About it reports “Komsomolskaya Pravda”.

According to Rogozin, Russia is interested in the development of the satellite and conducting experiments, but refuses to get involved in a race for its development. He compared this with the program “star wars”, to which the Soviet Union spent a lot of money, as well as “reminiscent of electoral competition, which the United States gave Republicans and Democrats.”

“We must not flinch so, what was the reaction of the USSR on the American strategic defense initiative (SDI, or “star wars”). Then a huge amount of money was thrown on a fantastic idea, in the end not implemented”, — said Rogozin.

The head of Roskosmos also said that the Moon is interesting for Russia as a “satellite, which provides vital functions of our planet”: “We will work out the experiments required by the asteroids and distant planets. But the Moon is not the ultimate goal.” However, “Roskosmos” will not allow the privatization of the moon.

In 2021 Russia’s Roscosmos plans to send to the moon the spacecraft “Luna-25”. Then, in the years 2024-2025 will be followed by “Luna-26” and “Moon-27”, which would conduct scientific research on the Earth’s satellite.

In may 2020, NASA unveiled an agreement Artemis Accords, which describes the international rules for the exploration of the moon and mining operations on its territory. For example, the ten new principles specified in the agreement, now the concept of “safe zones” around future lunar bases. In addition, NASA invites the public exchange of the scientific data and the spacecraft on the moon.
