Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to organize a conference in Moscow on the settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. TASS said the Ambassador Abdel Hafiz Nofal.
According to the Palestinian Ambassador to Russia, Mahmoud Abbas sent a letter to President Putin “a few weeks ago.”
“He asked him to convene an international conference in Moscow for the peace process between Palestine and Israel. This conference should establish a new mechanism for negotiations between the Israelis and Palestinians to put an end to confrontation on the basis of a two-state solution”, he explained.
The diplomat noted that in his reply the Russian leader reaffirmed his support for the Palestinians and the principle of a two-state solution to the middle East conflict.
“Russia, US, EU, UN are in the process of arranging a meeting of the Quartet of middle East mediators”, – he said.
The Ambassador said that Palestine wants “to continue negotiations with Israel,” and called on the international community to undertake efforts to convene a conference to create a new mechanism for the settlement of the conflict.
“Rambler” wrote that earlier the President of the United States Donald trump presented a plan for settlement of the conflict in the middle East, the so-called “deal of the century”. Among other things, he proposed to retain the existing Israeli settlements in the West Bank, which caused outrage in Palestine. The country’s leader, Mahmoud Abbas, stated that it had decided to terminate all agreements with Israel and the United States.
