Former Deputy head of the administration of former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, former Verkhovna Rada Deputy Andriy Senchenko said in the TV channel "black sea broadcasting company" that Kiev has the right to receive $ 200 billion from NATO for participation in the Budapest Memorandum.
In the case of Ukraine’s refusal to sign the document there would be a proliferation threat in the world "nuclear missile technology" and nuclear components, said the former MP.
"And this particular danger, so all of the NATO countries, and especially in our countries-guarantors, they were the beneficiaries," he added.
According to Senchenko, the NATO countries would be forced to incur huge costs over the last 26 years, if nuclear weapons remained in Ukraine, while the Alliance would have to devote much more money on defense than they were spent.
"And on this subject there is a certain calculations, and how many won these countries and what proportion of this can Ukraine count. And we believe that the direct winnings amounted to at least one trillion dollars over this time, at least, Ukraine has the right for at least 20% of this economic impact – $ 200 billion", – concluded the ex-Deputy.
After the collapse of the USSR, Kyiv inherited a substantial nuclear Arsenal. However, in 1994, Ukraine, Russia, USA and Britain signed the Budapest Memorandum, which served as an international agreement on security assurances in connection with Ukraine’s accession to the Treaty on the nonproliferation of nuclear weapons. In accordance with the Treaty, the nuclear Arsenal on the territory of Ukraine has been eliminated, and the nuclear powers undertook to guarantee the safety of Kiev.
