Russia will not respond to the mirror measures at Ukraine’s decision to impose sanctions against Russian institutions of culture and science, as the Russian Federation is interested in communicating with a wide range of scientists, said RIA Novosti, first Deputy Chairman of the Duma Committee on culture Elena Drapeko, calling Ukraine’s decision "perfect insanity".
Earlier, Ukraine imposed sanctions for a period of three years in respect of the institutions of culture and science. In the sanctions list includes the Russian geographical society, State Hermitage Museum, State Museum of fine arts named after A. S. Pushkin, the Institute of archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow state University named after M. V. Lomonosov, Tula state pedagogical University named after L. N. Tolstoy, Institute of history of material culture Russian Academy of Sciences, Institute of Oriental studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Historical and archaeological Museum-reserve of "Neapolis" (Simferopol), as well as a number of other institutions of science and culture.
"I think it’s insane. That is, Ukraine cut themselves off completely from the cultural ties that have arisen over the centuries and fueled the Ukrainian culture first of all … the Russian Federation, of course, will not respond to these steps mirror measures because we are interested in the widest possible range of communication with all scientists," said Drapeko.
The MP stressed that, by approving this document, the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky acknowledged his absolute "not that of incompetence, malignancy of some kind", and this decision causes damage primarily in Ukraine itself.
