Scientists have long believed that the long legs of dinosaurs were animals needed for the development of speed during catching of prey. However, a new study suggests another reason.

A new study suggests that long legs have the largest dinosaur, help animals to save energy and to pass a greater distance in search of food.

“a Large animal, the necessary “adaptations”, which can be aimed at endurance and efficiency,” the authors comment.

The researchers analyzed various metrics such as the proportions of the limbs, aspect ratio, body weight and gait to evaluate the maximum speed more than 70 species of dinosaurs, the theropods. Their sizes ranged from 200 grams up to nine tons. They included Tyrannosaurus Rex and many other two-legged predators that had dominated for 180 million years. Denagoth and running speed are often referred to as the characteristics of this species.

According to a new analysis, long legs were associated with a higher rate in small and medium dinosaurs, but this was not true for animals weighing more than a ton. Scientists knew that large body size may limit the speed, and the study showed that the major types of dinosaurs with longer legs were faster than their short-legged counterparts. But they moved more efficiently.

Calculating how much energy spends each dinosaur, moving at walking speed, the researchers found that among the largest those who have legs longer, need less energy to move around.
