The special representative of the President of the United States arms control Marshall Billingsley called the condition for the extension of the Contract on reduction of strategic offensive arms (SNV-3). About it reports The Washington Times.
According to Billingsley, Moscow needs to convince China also to “sit at the negotiating table”. He explained that one of the main problems with the new start Treaty is that it does not participate in Beijing.
The special representative of the American leader added that the United States has no interest in “arms control for the sake of the fact of arms control”.
The Treaty on the limitation of strategic offensive arms was signed in 2010 by then presidents of Russia and the USA Dmitry Medvedev and Barack Obama. The agreement came into force in 2011 and his term expires in February 2021-th. According to the document, the Russian and American sides during the seven years pledge to reduce the number of deployed strategic delivery vehicles — Intercontinental ballistic missiles, ballistic missile submarines, and heavy bombers to 700 units.
Washington insists that the new agreement should include more parties and “cover more systems than now.” In addition, according to the American authorities, it should include a range of new Russian weapons systems that are currently being developed.
