Japanese scientists have found that the Moon emit more carbon than previously thought. The opening will allow us to revise the theory of the origin of Earth’s natural satellite, according to which the ancient carbon contained in lunar rocks, were to evaporate due to high temperature of the material from which arose a celestial body. Article with the results of scientific work published in the journal Science Advances.

The researchers analyzed data obtained from the lunar Orbiter KAGUYA. It turned out that the satellite of the Earth there is a reservoir of carbon, whose origin cannot be explained by the fall of micrometeorites and the influence of the solar wind. However, some regions of the moon, for example, basalt plains, emit more carbon than others.

According to scientists, this suggests that under the surface of the moon contains large amounts of carbon since the inception of the satellite. However, it remains a mystery how he was able to remain in the molten rocks, which were formed during the collision of Earth with a small planet.

The generally accepted theory of the formation of the moon suggests that Earth’s natural satellite was formed from fragments of rocks ejected into space by a catastrophic collision.
