Georgia recalled its Ambassador from Kiev for consultations in connection with the appointment of former President Mikheil Saakashvili, head of the Ukrainian Executive Committee of the National Council of reforms, Minister of foreign Affairs of Georgia David Zalkaliani.
however, Georgia does not consider the severance of diplomatic relations or revision of a strategic partnership, he added.
“It is a usual practice in diplomatic relations, which indicates certain problems in the bilateral relations, therefore, to determine future steps necessary to consult with the Ambassador,” said Mr Zalkaliani journalists (quoted by “Interfax”).
Recall, as President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky in may 2019 has returned Mikhail Saakashvili Ukrainian citizenship. This allowed the former President of Georgia to return to Kiev and to continue to engage in politics. Later it became known that the former President of Georgia may be part of the Ukrainian government. His candidacy is not supported by the majority in the Verkhovna Rada.
