The CDU in Rhineland-Palatinate wrote a three-page fire letter to Prime Minister Malu Dreyer about the flood disaster. In it, opposition leader Christian Baldauf lists 15 unresolved questions for Dreyer. It is still unclear what Dreyer knew and did on the flood night – or not.
Prime Minister Malu Dreyer (SPD) is still on fire in the processing of the flood disaster in the Ahr Valley. The Rhineland-Palatinate CDU is now sending a three-page letter directly to the head of government. As the “Stern” reports, the head of state Christian Baldauf calls for answers to 15 previously unanswered questions. “We ask you to answer the questions,” writes Baldauf.
Baldauf had already harshly criticized Dreyer’s actions on Sunday. Baldauf said to the “Bild am Sonntag” (Bams): “Prime Minister Dreyer is trying desperately to give the impression that she has nothing to do with all of this. She is responsible for the fact that the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of the Environment did not communicate sufficiently on July 14th. Opportunities to warn people early and save them were lost.”
The flood night was “a political declaration of bankruptcy for the state government,” said the CDU state boss. “Instead of going to the bridge on the night of the disaster, ministers and state secretaries said goodbye to the end of the day: “The generals went to sleep and crisis management collapsed. There wasn’t even a briefing.”
Baldauf now adds: “Malu Dreyer has not yet contributed to the clarification.” She and her cabinet “failed” that night. Baldauf in his letter according to “Stern”: “It requires an honest and in-depth analysis and an open error culture.”
